Indian Gold and the Little Gray Dress: The Perfect Look For Work

I have to confess – one of the main staples of my wardrobe is the little black dress.  I have a lot of them.  Maybe too many.  I just love them because they are easy – pull on a black dress, toss on a colored cardigan or blazer, and you are instantly ready for work.

But, black all the time is boring.  So, in an effort to diversify a little, I picked up a few gray dresses.  Granted, that’s not a huge diversification effort, but you’ll have to cut me some slack.  I’m a lawyer.  Thus, my wardrobe had to be limited to serious and dull.

I happen to like the color gray a lot.  It’s serious, but not as weighted as black.  Unfortunately, my brown skin does NOT go well with gray.  It’s like mixing vinegar and oil – it just doesn’t work.  But since I have all these gray dresses, I am compelled to try to find a way to make it look nice.  Naturally, I turned to Indian jewelry.

It turns out that gray dresses and solid gold Indian jewelry go very well together.  More so than I expected.  Check it out below:

The necklace above is gold, with some embedded red and deep green stones.  It sets off the gray very nicely; they both blend well together.  Up close or from a distance, this combo works.  I personally think that long gold Indian “chains”, with little stonework or embellishment (other than the usual intricate gold designs) work the best.

Now imagine this gray dress and gold Indian necklace paired with a cardigan – white, fuchsia, sky blue, or violet.  Interesting combo, right?  I didn’t take pictures with those looks, but I thought something should be left to the imagination.

Try it out yourself!
